Why bring my car to Details, Inc. ?

Because we do a better job.  We use only the finest materials and cleaning agents, all pH balanced, including some that we've developed ourselves.  And we take more time with each car-much more time-than other shops do.  When we turn a car back over to you, it's perfect.

Why does it take all day to clean your car?

It takes more than a few hours to get your car dirty.  Which is why it takes more than a few minutes to clean it properly.  Ah, but who has the time to clean your car like it deserves?  We do... at Details Inc.

How often should I have my car detailed?

We recommend at least three times a year assuming your car is subjected to normal road use in the Washington area.  More frequently if the road conditions where you typically drive are severe.

How is detailing different from getting my car "washed and waxed?"

There's no comparison, detailing involves a complete cleaning of your cars exterior and interior. It begins with a completely-by-hand wash and includes meticulous cleaning of every square inch of your car with sponges, chamois, toothbrushes and Q-Tips. On the Exterior we pressure wash the wheels, tires, and wheel wells. Remove tar and bugs, remove badges, & tape crevices. Polish paint & hand wax with 2 coats carnauba wax. Treat all plastic, vinyl, rubber trim, and tires with a rubber-vinyl protector.

On the Interior we vacuum seats and carpets. Pre-spot stains, shampoo entire interior: i.e. carpeting, upholstery, door panels, headliner, dash board, foot panels, kick panels, pedals, and mats. Treat vinyl and leather. Vacuum and spot clean the trunk.

What is the difference between a Polish and a Wax?

A. There is a lot of confusion about the difference between a polish and a wax. Many manufacturers are marketing waxes as polishes. You have to read the labels closely to really understand what the product does. Professionals know there is a difference between the two. A pure polish is more like a paint conditioner that restores valuable oils to the paint, eliminates fine scratches and creates incredible high gloss that would not be possible with wax. An application of a pure polish should be followed by waxing to protect the shine and extend its life. If you own a dark car, you'll see a dramatic difference, if you apply polish before you wax. If you want a great finish and to hide the scratches, it is best to use quality cleaners, pure polishes and waxes that restore the surface properly.

Is it true some of the new auto paints do not need wax?  Is there any type of wax that lasts for 5 or more years?

Absolutely not on both counts. The secret to paint protection is common sense. If paint can deteriorate in two years, how could something out of a bottle last five years? Liquid Carnauba Waxes last a few weeks. Paste Carnauba Waxes last a couple of months with pampering. Even Paint Sealants will only endure six months of washing. Because wax protection is essential to guard against UV damage, wax often and wash by hand with a Mild Shampoo. NO WAX can withstand automated car washes.
